That was a week that was!
We always go out on Thursday nights, I go up to meet DB at the East Kilbride bus station after work and we go out for a meal, pop into the pub, have a couple of drinks, giggle at the kareoke (while admiring their courage, cos neither of us would get up there) and then come home again.
However, we won't be doing that anymore. Thursday 26th Aug, started as usual, but when we got back to the bus station, there was a gang of Neds (Non-educated delinquents) hanging around. The two boys were standing on the seats, so DB asked if they'd mind standing on the ground so I could sit down. They did, but with a lot of lip which we did our best to ignore. Then one of them spat at us. Should have ignored that too, but you always know best in hindsight.
DB objected, saying the little git should be taught some manners. Said little git ripped DBs glasses off his face, scrunched them up and as he took off, with DB in pursuit, threw them back at me. They then all took off, cos a police car was coming. DB went and spoke to the police, who said they'd go and look if they could find them.
I'm meanwhile praying the bus would come, but just as it did, they came back and started yelling insults again. DB took off after them, despite my pleas to just get on the bus. They'd come armed and went for him with a 2 by 4, hitting his arm, which he'd put up to ward off the blows to his head.
We finally managed to get on the bus and it was only then that we found that his arm was pure red with blood from elbow to wrist. There was a wound in his arm and we thought he'd been stabbed. Long story short, A&E and all that, he'd fractured his arm. Friday morning at 08:30 we had to go up to the hospital again to attend the fracture clinic, where they told us that they were worried that it was the bone that had caused the wound, especially as I hadn't been able to find a tear in the sleeve. The bone was lying in such a way that if they left it to heal, he wouldn't be able to rotate his wrist.
They admitted him, as it would require an op to fix and a metal plate to hold the bone in place while it heals. This was meant to be on the Friday, but before he could be done a massive RTA came in and he and three others were bumped from the list.
The op was done Saturday and he was allowed home again Saturday evening. His arm is only bandaged and was badly swollen, although that has gone down some over the last week. He has some limited use of that arm and that has improved over the week as well, although he's still in pain, especially if he forgets and automatically tries to use that arm. Fortunately it's his left, so not as limiting as his right would have been.
I've decided to start my Christmas presents, instead of waiting till the last minute. I'm doing a blackwork lily for DBs mum, but I'm totally out of the habit of counting and keep having to go back as I've gone over three threads instead of two! Mind you, once the lilies are done, the background filling is easy, so it shouldn't take too long. I'm doing it in Navy blue instead of black, cos her lounge is blue. Will probably embroider a couple of pillowcases for his sister.
