Starting again
While I'm still having fun with painting and drawing, I must admit that embroidery and fabric are what I reach for the most.
I've also invested in a Pfaff Sewing machine, so have also being having some fun playing with that. I have never been overly enamoured of machine embroidery, but I could be converted!!

Since I joined ATCs for All in March, I have made and traded well over a hundred cards, which in the grand scheme of things, is not very much, but I've learnt a lot from them.
Then there's the unusual!
As an embroiderer and doing thread painting, I have no doubts about my capabilities to embroider whatever I choose to do. However with a pencil and paintbrush, it's a totally different thing, as I've never considered myself 'an artist' and I can't draw people! So it's been quite a voyage of discovery and while there's a lot of room for improvement, I'm not unhappy with the results.

Cyberfyber Trade
Woohoo, life's been hectic lately! Due to a campaign to drive me up the wall by my youngest stepson, I became extremely stressed and this brought on another attack of the 'lurgy'. I was dragging myself out of bed to carry on with my ATCs but as I was not doing justice to them it wasn't fair on the recipients, so I gave up and let the lurgy run its course.
I've finally finished my trade with Susan for the Cyberfyber Exhibition. It's entitled Encrustation.

Moving On ............
After a long period of next to no stitching, or much of anything, due to illness, depression and what have you I found ATCs. These little works of art have saved my sanity and got me stitching again. Yeeha, it's so good to be creative again.

Sick and tired ...
Of being ill! Life is definitely a lemon at the moment and I need to make lemonade as I'm getting distinctly fed up with it all.
The dermatologist has made her diagnosis. I have Mastocytosis, so now she's given me some cream and patches to use and has lost interest in me. I don't need to go back until August. What causes it is a complete mystery to her and apparently of no real interest.
The haemotologist is happy that whatever it all is, it's not blood related, so I don't need to see them again .... which is just as well, cos every visit there, meant I was punctured for numerous tests, although I will forever be blase about having blood taken after my one excruciating experience of bone marrow extraction! That seriously could be used as an effective torture procedure.
The all over suntan I was acquiring courtesy of the NHS has come to an end, cos it wasn't doing anything to the lurgy!
My social life has revolved around doctor appointments for so long, now those seem to have ceased, I rarely seem to go anywhere.
However, the story doesn't end there. A friend recommended that I read the book Eating for your Blood Type by Peter A'Damo. This advises that as a Type O, I should be on a High Protein, low carb, gluten and dairy free diet. I should also be following an intensive exercise regime. I realised that the last time I'd cleared up the lurgy, was when I was doing precisely this, albeit, by accident. So far, I've managed to stick to a fairly wheat and dairy free diet, although a week or so ago I was in a hurry and so grabbed a 'normal' sandwich. Not only was I uncomfortable as this digested, within a couple of days, I was again laid low by the lurgy, so it appears to be an allergic reaction.
I've got as far as getting the application forms for the local health centre. I'm not particularily keen on aerobics ... by the time I've got the exercise right and in time to the music, the class are onto something else ... but I do like water aerobics. Swimming too is good exercise and I quite like doing the circuit. I had to go to my GP to get a referral and she'd just received some bumph about a programme starting up at the Royal. Weightloss, but combining diet, exercise and pyschology, so she's putting my name forward for that.
I've also been refered to the Gateway team and am waiting to hear from the pyschologist there ... I can't cope on my own or with just anti-depressants, I need to talk my problems out.
So while I haven't yet got lemonade, I've got as far as cutting the lemons!

Not much
Has happened since I last posted. My life at the moment seems to revolve around hospital appointments, which are exceptionally boring!! Mind you, I'm getting to see bits of Glasgow I've not been to before, cos last week I had to go out to Clydebank to have a DEXA scan.

Anniversary
It's a year since my op and a year since I last posted! All sorts of things have happened since then. I recovered fairly quickly and in May went down to London to stay with my eldest daughter as I was taking part in the Embroiderers Guild 100th Anniversary at Hampton Court. I was demonstrating Stumpwork and in the three days we were there, we were allowed to roam around the Palace, which was amazing, although I didn't manage to see all of it.
I never did finish the goldwork I was working on as I abandoned it to start the piece for Hampton Court.
My youngest came up to visit before leaving for SA. It was really hard to say Goodbye, not knowing when I'll see her again. Depression and all sorts struck and I haven't done much embroidery for the last ten months. However, things are looking up and life is getting back on track!
In October my mother arrived for a three month stay. She came up with Janet to visit us for two days, which was nice. Last week of January, I drove down to Newark and then drove her down to London. I spent five days in her company and came to the conclusion that while she is my mother, she isn't my friend.
During the time in London, I met up with friends from loosechat.net. We're a right mad bunch of women who have made friends on an online forum and now in real life too. It's quite weird, everyone (with one exception) that I have met online and then later in real life I've felt like I've known them for ever and there's never been any 'strangeness'. The only photo I have from this meeting is far too deadful to post. It was taken on someones phone.
Leaving my mum with my eldest daughter, I made my way back to Newark and stayed with my brother and family, for a "Circular Ladies Sewing Circle" Meeting. Years ago, before life got in the way, I used to drop my girls at school, pick up my s-i-l on the way back from dropping her eldest (who is now in the RAF) at pre-school and we'd spend every day together producing enormous amounts of embroidery/patchwork/porcelain dolls/lace/toys and whatever else took our fancy. I finally arrived home 1006 miles after leaving!

And Three!
Saturday 11th at about 5pm I got a call from the hospital to say surgery was cancelled, cos the CICU was being refurbished and the builders weren't finished yet.
Monday 13th at 11am I got a phone call from the hospital "Can you come in right now please?"
Long story short. I did have the surgery on 14th Feb after all. I'm now back home, feeling a bit weak and wobbly but relatively painfree, well considering!
My eldest daughter came to see me on Sunday morning before returning to London and said "Oh good, you're 'cottoning' again, you must be feeling better!" Got quite a lot done too, the silver side is almost finished.

Take Two
I've been given the all clear, so Monday morning I have to present myself at the hospital. They'll redo the tests and if they are still clear, then I will have the surgery on Tuesday.
In the meantime, I've been working on a Celtic knotwork Yin and Yang. Our Handcraft Circle is having an exhibition in March and the theme is "Celtic". This design is actually a tattoo on my b-i-l's wrist! I enlarged it and 'tweaked' it to make it more friendly for goldwork. I had originally intended to use kid, but don't have big enough pieces for that, so reduced it a bit to make it more friendly for actual embroidery!! I drew up the finished design on freezer paper and then ironed that onto felt. I then did rows of chain stitch in DMC#5 Perle cotton to pad it up and give it the 'domed' shape. I'm now Satin stitching with Anchor Lame, one of the best metallic threads on the market. (No affiliation etc, just a happy customer!) I will outline with goldwork threads, just haven't decided which ones yet.
